Josh Sacks has been recognized as one of the premier attorneys in Atlanta working on behalf of individual victims and their families in catastrophic injury and wrongful death cases. He has earned an AV-rating from Martindale-Hubbell, the highest rating possible, with a 5.0 out of 5.0 (preeminent attorney). In 2005, Atlanta’s Jezebel Magazine featured him as one of only three “Lawyers of Distinction” in the area of personal injury. That same year, Atlanta Magazine featured Josh as a Georgia Rising Star among Georgia’s Superlawyers. Josh was recognized as a Rising Star again in 2006 and has been recognized as a SuperLawyer in 2009 and 2010.
Josh draws on his diverse background and history of achievement, all of which have contributed to his positive track record on behalf of his clients. After graduating valedictorian of his public high school class in suburban Philadelphia, he went on to study at Amherst College in Massachusetts. At Amherst, Josh majored in Asian Languages & Civilizations, including four years of the Japanese language. He also majored in History.
In between college and law school, Josh was a claims adjuster in New England. He studied negotiation from the point of view of the insurance companies, and was able to gain valuable perspective during this time. Josh then earned his law degree from the Marshall-Wythe School of Law at the College of William & Mary. He was a member of Executive Committee of the Moot Court Board, the William & Mary Law Review, and a featured cartoonist and occasional writer for the law school newspaper, the Amicus Curiae. Josh earned one the highest grade point averages in his class, was admitted to the Order of the Barristers, and argued to a sitting United States Supreme Court Justice in the final rounds of the National Moot Court Competition. His team also received honors for submitting the best brief in the competition.
Josh began his professional career at a nationally known firm then called Butler, Wooten, Overby & Cheeley. While there, Josh handled cases ranging from personal injury car wrecks to multi-defendant complex product liability litigation. He has deposed officials at the highest levels in the automotive industry, and has been involved in cutting edge legal issues involving jury selection, corporate attorney-client privilege, RICO, and others.
During his career, Josh has served as a Vice-Chair of the Civil Procedure & Evidence Committee of the Tort and Insurance Practice Section of the American Bar Association. He was selected and served as a Barrister with the Joseph Henry Lumpkin American Inn of Court. He served as an attorney coach and a member of the Committee on Teams for the Georgia Intrastate High School Mock Trial Competition. He has been a Champion Member of the Georgia Trial Lawyer’s Association, and a member of the Trial Lawyers for Public Justice. He is a member of the Lawyer’s Club of Atlanta.
Josh is admitted to practice in all Georgia State and Superior Courts, all Georgia appellate courts, including the Supreme Court of Georgia, the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia, the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court. He has lectured extensively on issues of trial preparation, pretrial discovery, settlement negotiation, trial, depositions, courtroom technology, witness preparation, and a host of other issues.
His practice concentrates in the areas of tractor-trailer wrecks, medical malpractice, misfilled prescriptions, premises liability, and other serious injury and wrongful death cases.
